friday evening report
four substack recommendations, a delicious healthy salad, a musical that made me WEEP, etc!!
HOLA!
How was your week? This one flew by for me. It was full of family time with Austin’s parents, writing, hosting at the restaurant, meal prepping, and getting back into my regular workout routine.
Let’s get into it, shall we?
READING // I’ve been enjoying the sweetest newsletters recently:
The Best Photoshoot I've Ever Had by
(An incredible story about finding beauty in tough moments)Blue Days and Copper Pennies by (Some people are just so damn resilient and beautiful and Suleika has such a way with words.)
Girl Crush: Lauren Young by (I’ve been loving these interviews with badass women!)
Letters From Love by (listening to Liz read this letter from love was healing)
EATING // I made one of my favorite salads to eat for lunch throughout the week. I add in a cup of farro, I ditch the pita, and swap Feta for the cheese!
WATCHING // I saw the Broadway musical Maybe Happy Ending on Saturday and LOVED it. I was motivated by
to bump it to the top of my must-see list and thank goodness I did because it’s my favorite musical I’ve seen in a loooonnngggg time. The plot tells the love story between two retired robots. 🥹 I’m looking forward to writing about it in my next Dating NYC Series!THINKING ABOUT // This interview with Dr. Becky from The Happiness Lab podcast. I don’t have kids yet but I love learning about parenting; everything she talks about can be applied to all of our relationships, including the one we have with ourselves! I love her approach of practicing curiosity and compassion when your child is behaving “badly.” Asking the questions, “I wonder what was going on with my kid when they ______? What skills are they missing? What can I teach them so that the next time they feel ____ and want to behave “badly,” they have the tools to handle it differently?” I geek out over this stuff. This would be the interview I’d send to people if they wanted to get a solid grasp on Dr. Becky and what she’s all about.
BEAUTY OF THE WEEK // On Sunday night I showered, ate leftovers for dinner, and then tidied up the house while I chatted to Anjali (bestie) on the phone for 2 hours. I cleaned the bathroom, lounged on the couch, cracked open a diet coke, meandered to the kitchen…the time flew, my heart settled, I felt energized and peaceful all at once. How lucky am I? We do this every weekend (unless one of us is traveling) and it’s become a constant that keeps me grounded. It made me think of the other constants in my life, and these are a few that came to mind: starting my day with a breakfast muffin, walking with Honey through Central Park, creating weekly meal plans, running and practicing pilates, applying my skincare, reading before bed…these are the routines that keep me calm. What are your constants?
WEEKEND PLANS: When this hits your inbox, I’ll be with my family, congratulating my younger brother for completing grad school with a Masters in Library Sciences, c’mon!!! We’re celebrating with Thai food and a comedy show. I’ve been appreciating milestones more and more recently for how they bring us together; I’ll be soaking up every moment and playing with my disposable camera!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend, thank you soooo much for reading!!! xx
I love that we're all together this weekend- loving that MC's stick-withit-ness turned tonight into a celebration and that you take the lead for us in planning out beautiful dinners. Lovely of you to record your life so well- with so much sunshine in your voice. xoxo
When I wake I do my bed exercises, twirling my legs, massaging my feet and hands and potty. Then I do my NYT games before morning pills and .
