Hellooooo from Benicia, California. I’m here with Austin + Honey, visiting Austin’s family. I spent the morning doing some of my favorite things and wanted to share them with you…because some mornings are just too sweet to keep to yourself.
First I combined two of my favorite things in the world: a walk with my dog + a phone call with my mom. I caught up on all things Life with my mom while Honey and I explored downtown Benicia. And what a sweet downtown it is! We walked by the dock and caught the last bit of sunrise, and then we meandered to our hearts’ content…passing by chicken coops, flower beds, and adorable Bed and Breakfasts getting ready to serve coffee to their early risers.
I dropped Honey off to eat her breakfast and then went out in search of my own. First I stopped at a juice place and was greeted by the friendliest…juicer (?) I’d ever met. She had the brightest smile and was eager to find me something I would love. The interaction went something like this:
Her: What kind of juice do you typically enjoy?
Me: Nothing too bitter. I’m a big baby.
Her: Okay great, why don’t you try this? It’s what I give kids.
Me: Perfect.
It was sunshine in a bottle. Or rather, it was carrots, pineapple, and oranges in a bottle.
Next I crossed the street and went to a very California looking coffee shop called “Coffee + Bread.” I said hello to two dogs before going inside, which is how I wish I could enter every building in my life. I bought a slice of banana bread which was delicious but nowhere near as delicious as my mom’s banana bread. I sat outside and sent this text to Anjali (soul-sis) feeling like I was experiencing a very ~me~ moment. It felt like a comforting squeeze from the universe, a small “you’re on the right path” sort of feeling. I love that a slice of banana bread + freshly squeezed juice could give me that affirmation.
Then I went inside a local bookstore and decided I would use some of my latest babysitting money to buy a new book. I found one that a friend had recently recommended with glowing reviews and immediately scooped it up. “Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow,” by Gabrielle Zeven. I can’t wait to eat it up!!!
Benicia’s downtown area is absolutely idyllic and I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow and do it all over again. Maybe I’ll find the sand and take Honey to the beach!
Whoever you are, I hope you’re having a good day.
